This is the first year I've put one of these up (I think...), but I've found a couple of things on other people's that I can do, so I'm putting up one of my own to join the party!
How to Play
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use—or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free—do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf—to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not — it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1. Someone to go to the Cruxshadows concert with me. It's December 3rd at the Lincoln Theatre and tickets are $12 in advance.
2. I'd love to figure out a way to get up to DC on December 20th with
etherealmccoy to see Rhett Miller. The tricky part is going to be finding somewhere to stay where we can take Tyler along. And finding the money to pay for the trip
3. Pots, pans and other random kitchen stuff that will undoubtedly be lacking when I move into my own place. Cups (measuring and to drink out of), one of those racks to dry dishes on, spatulas and big spoons for serving and mixing, mixing bowls, cutting board, knives, etc. If someone had an automatic yogurt maker lying around, that would be amazing. :)
4. A job in my field, so as to pay for my own place.
5. Music! I've worked my way through most of the mess left by my magical moving music this past summer and I'm down to reconstructing the last 60 mixes or so. That means that there will very soon be a post going up with all the tracks which are gone. I would love you to pieces if you could supply any of that, when it goes up.
I'm stopping at 5, mainly because I'm having difficulty thinking of anything else. Mostly what I need is more time!
