So. LiveJournal's been sold to SUP, a Russian company.
(Note that fandom does not say "I TOLD YOU SO!")
Said Russian company has startlingly close ties to the Kremlin and Vladmir Putin.
Said Russian company has been managing the Russian branch of LiveJournal for a year, much to the chagrin of the Russian users.
There are rumors of issues with privacy.
SUP announces the creation of a LiveJournal Advisory Board to "publish and update on a regular basis a clear a set of aims and values. This will address such vital community issues as privacy, security, taste and decency. It will also provide a forum to consider any relevant legal, political or religious concerns.
I am, as you can tell, just overjoyed about this little sequence of events. This list of links isn't exhaustive, but I think it covers all the bases. If I've missed something, drop me a comment and I'll edit the post to add links as needed.
