winterthunder: (bad day)
So it took me almost a year, but I've finished reading all of the hp_dungeons archives and am now back where I started. It's rather odd, to be quite honest, because I've been doing it for so long and am used to just heading over to Dungeons when I have extra time on my hands and don't want to commit to several hours of writing. Or reading, for that matter, since several of the books and fanfics I could read in it's place are really long and would most likely suck me in for several hours. I have around 20 books from Christmas and various bookstore excursions that I haven't read yet, I've been wanting to re-read the last Harry Potter book and the Da Vinci code and Cartographer's Craft and the Draco Trilogy. I should look into how much it would cost to print those out for my own use since I really like them and I would like having copies that didn't require several hours in front of a computer to read. Not that I would ever do that, but perhaps I could get my parents to make it a Christmas present or something.

The professor I'm working with this summer still doesn't have grant money yet, so I'm really just hanging around the house until she can pay me something. I do have a car, but it's a manual and while I'm doing much better than anticipted I'm not good enough to go out on the roads during the day yet. By the end of the week, I hope. Dad left Barb's car, which is an automatic for me to take to the orthopedic surgeon in about 15 minutes. This will be the first time I'll have driven on my own. I'm nervous about that and I'm nervous about having to see an orthopedic surgeon. He'll be checking out my left knee, which did one funny popping thing which led to a frenzy on the part of my mom and an insistance that I get it checked out. She had both knees reconstructed at age 18, and is currently going on and on about screws and physical therapy and 500 leg lifts a day and I'm wishing I'd just kept my damn mouth shut when the stupid thing popped out of joint. It popped back in immediately and it hasn't done anything else since, so why can't I just ignore it?

Oh well, I'll see what this guy says today. He's supposed to be conservative on surgery, which is good since I have no intention of having surgery. I've just booked my next two years, sorry, can we schedule for summer of 2008?

It is way too disconcerting when a doctor is able to dislocate one's kneecap simply by pushing on it. It is even more disconcerting when he doesn't warn one first.

Ah well, I'm back and seem to have avoided surgery for the time being. I've been set up with physical therapy twice a week for four weeks and excercises to do from now until forever. Bweck. Forever is way to far away to comprehend and I most certainly don't want to add another set of excercises that I'm *supposed* to be doing until forever. Just leads to awkward explanations when a parental unit asks about them.
