scents and updates and giant turtles
Mar. 11th, 2006 10:47 pmSomething is wrong with the world when you have to deal with your younger brother and his friend wearing horrendus cologne to a school dance. Damn, the stuff is like walking into an invisible wall within a five foot radius of them and walking through peanut butter if you're trying to walk through any place that they've been in the last five minutes. And it has about the same effect on my body as walking into a wall too. Painful. Erin, have I ever told you how much I love the fact that you don't wear extremely strong unnatural scents? If not, consider this my eternal gratitude on that subject.
Regarding study abroad and the new major, I am in that state where I'm waiting to wake up. Everything that I thought would be major hurdles have become minor humps, though I'm still going to have to spend an innordinate amount of time in the study abroad and CHASS offices in the next few days to make it work. And my parents (who I thought would be the biggest hurdle of all) both seem to think that it's a good idea.
Giant turtle really isn't all that interesting, though impressive in sheer size and age. 165 lbs, 150 years old, alligator snapping turtle named Crunch. He was at the Natural Science museum downtown today and we went down to look at all the reptiles and the brain exhibit. The museum was packed with way too many little kids and people in general for my tastes, though the brain exhibit was much better. I dislike crowds to start with, and crowds of children... ummm, no. The brain exhibit was well done, though not in enough detail for my tastes. We went into much more detail in anatomy and I'm sure I'll learn way more than I want to know in neuro once I get to vet school. Still, there was some fun hands on stuff and interesting blurbs here and there. I never knew exactly what was different about Einstein's brain. I'm sure there's more than they said, but hey, it works. The target is obviously the general public and not the animal science student. I was a bit annoyed by quotes from people with mental illness saying how much better their lives were now that they were diagnosed and medicated, with little disclaimers at the bottom.
I need to stop being exhausted by 10:30 at night. It's starting to get really annoying. Actually, more like 6:30; I took a nap before dinner to get to this point. I think this is my body fighting off my mom's cold so I should be grateful it's fighting and I'm not sick. But gaaa! I want to do things and not sleep!
Other than that, not much of interest and I'm ready to head back to State tomorrow. Now if only classes wouldn't start for another few days...
