In the aftermath of all the memoirs proven to be fakes recently, I have to say I'm wondering about something. If you're creative enough to come up with a story so moving that it's accepted and published, why wouldn't you simply sell it as fiction? That's what it is, and none of these false memoirs would have raised any eyebrows if they'd been marketed as fiction and they probably would have sold decently. Instead the authors are disgraced and will never be able to publish again.

So why would you try to pass it off as a memoir? Surely you must know that you'll be asked questions, that it's next to impossible for the details to line up and sooner or later someone will come forward to say that you really weren't doing that at all. I mean, you lived for 18 years, if not more, without trying to disguise your activities, there are way too many witnesses for you to claim you were in another location entirely.
